Merry Christmas

Holiday season is the time of year when everyone gathers around the table to eat, drink, and be merry. In the case of my family, there’s always a fight, always something my mother cooks that no one in our immediate family likes to eat but she make for our guests, and always a lot of booze.

Last night I think we had a subconscious contest to see if we could finish every drop of alcohol in our house. Suffice to say, we did our utmost … and now all feel like shit. Excuse the language baby Jesus.

My sisters have wooden legs. I don’t know where they get it from, but I didn’t inherit that gene. One glass of anything and I’m already feeling the Christmas spirit, but somehow when I’m with them I think I can handle it.

IMG_2903My mother as I mentioned, is a kitchen bully and allows no one in her kitchen or dining room when she’s preparing for Christmas, but yesterday I could make a cake. So I made a carrot cake. My sisters helped with the assembly. We were all in the mood for pecans for some reason, go figure.

The meal was simple but good, veggies, salad, chicken wrapped in puff pastry with roasted tomatoes and brie, and wine. For dessert we had carrot cake, Italian cheese cake (which no one liked and I have to agree, it wasn’t sweet enough due to the style not my mishap), and a pistachio chocolate cake that was covered in fondant.

I have to say, by the time we made it to dessert with friends and wine no one was eating much. That and it was about 10:30/11 at night and I think we’d capped our dinner time grace period at that point. So European of us to be eating so late, generally my parents enjoy the early bird special.

The only comment against the night is that our dining room looked like Communist Russia. All we needed was an aspic to complete the theme.

Enjoy the day and celebrate however you and yours truly do!
